Plastic Smart Cities (PSC) has been implementing various pilot interventions to curb plastic pollution since 2018. Reflecting on experiences on the ground through a systematic review of the successes, challenges, and scalability of PSC pilot interventions, here is a package of learnings aimed to inform future programme design and guide the implementation efforts of stakeholders seeking to address plastic pollution in cities, coastal areas, and islands. This includes a series of case studies and recommendations for scaling and replication, along with investing in a circular economy.
Organised by the PSC Focus Areas along with an Enabling Framework, explore the lessons learned from each step of the solid waste value chain:
The report focuses on five countries in East and Southeast Asia where PSC has had the longest history of engagement, the PSC programme has continued to expand globally and this page will act as a living resource, continuously expanding to include more case studies over time.
This package includes 23 detailed case studies from the PSC programme, presented according to the different intervention points along the solid waste value chain, along with an enabling framework. These case studies are categorised into four chapters based on the PSC Focus Areas
