WWF-Indonesia | Roadmap for Reducing Waste in Traditional Markets Across Bogor City from 2025 to 2029

Traditional markets are among the most important economic and social hubs in Bogor City, but they also generate significant amounts of organic and plastic waste. This roadmap, developed through collaboration between WWF-Indonesia, the Plastic Smart Cities initiative, and Perumda Pasar Pakuan Jaya, provides a strategic framework for reducing waste from traditional markets between 2025 and 2029. The document outlines data-driven strategies, pilot projects, governance mechanisms, and action plans to improve waste segregation, reduce single-use plastics, increase organic waste processing, and support Bogor City’s goal of achieving a 30% reduction in market waste by 2029.

This roadmap presents a comprehensive strategy for reducing waste in traditional markets across Bogor City from 2025 to 2029. The study assesses existing waste management challenges, including high dependence on single-use plastics, limited waste segregation, insufficient infrastructure, and operational constraints. It proposes phased interventions focused on plastic reduction, organic waste processing, stakeholder engagement, behavior change, and circular economy practices, with Pasar Jambu Dua serving as the pilot project before scaling successful approaches to other markets. The roadmap is intended to guide local government agencies, market operators, businesses, community organizations, and environmental practitioners working on sustainable waste management and urban circular economy solutions.
