Asia

A Region Committed

More than 30 Asian cities and coastal centres – many of which are well-known tourist destinations – have already joined the Plastics Smart Cities initiative. These cities receive on-ground support from WWF’s regional and national offices, and serve as model examples for neighbouring cities in the region.

Best Practices

Plastic Smart Cities are committed to implementing global Best Practices that prevent, minimize and manage plastic, both as a resource, and as a waste. We encourage you to explore our growing Best Practice catalogue below, and further contribute to the Plastic Smart Cities community by SUBMITTING your own Best Practices for consideration and inclusion.

Best Practices are categorized in six unique collections that are aligned with the internationally recognized Waste Hierarchy, with Prevention as a first priority placed at the top of the hierarchy, and with Disposal at the bottom of the hierarchy, considered only as a last resort. We also include Financial Instruments as a distinct collection in our catalogue given the unique value these policy related Best Practices have for Cities and Tourist Destinations.
